Macular Hole Treatment in Metairie, LA

What is a macular hole?

The macula is at the very center of the retina and is responsible for central vision, seeing color, and attending to fine details. A hole forms in the macula when the nerves separate from each other and leave an opening. This can be caused by complications of posterior vitreous detachment (described in more detail here), injury, eye surgery, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy or diabetic macular edema, and/or eye inflammation.

When should I see a specialist?

Symptoms include blurred vision, distorted shapes, and a black hole in your center of vision. See a specialist immediately for diagnosis and treatment to prevent permanent damage to your vision.
